Stratigraphy

So far, the exploration in stratigraphy on locality Gradishte, at village Taor, we identify three settlements which exist on the same area: prehistoric, late antique and early middle age.
Prehistoric settlement belongs early Bronze Age. Testify through two stone hatchets, stone knifes and fragment parts from ceramic plates, discovered in antique layers. Till now it is not discovered cultural layer from this settlement. This cultural layer it is expected to be found in the central part of the settlement or, eventually on the south terrace.
Late antique settlement (IV-VI century) it is verified through numerous moving archeological findings and discovered buildings. In the stratigraphy on this settlement clearly differ two phases of existence. The first existed in the period from IV-VI century, till catastrophic earthquake in 518 year, second phase after the earthquake during the VI century. Up to now, from the first phase exploration are discovered parts from only one building. It is part from apartment house; the walls are made from river stone connected with mud and floor it’s covered with thin layer of clay. From outside on lower layers it’s found one row from roof shingle and on the angle, part from hand mill. Findings on coins from Konstantij (337-361) and Konstans (337-350), testify it’s chronological belonging. This object exists till the end of VI century. Confirmation represents discovered ground findings on 7 coins on Justinian I, under the floor level.
Biggest part from discovered buildings and moving archeological findings are from second phase.
According proportions, opus of masonry and quality of mortar which was used, had impression that discovered parts from the building and defense wall are firmly and planned buildings. With these findings we assume that renovation after 518 year was simultaneously intervened. In this phase in the conception of the settlement was build water supply and drain system. As result of the Slovenian and Avarian penetration in the end of VI century, life in this settlement completely ended.
Early middle age settlement (IX-XI century) it is confirmed through building interventions on already existing architecture and moving archeological findings. After break from two century, the settlement was active again. Parts were renewed on already existing building, but they were adjusted on the conditions in that period. In this settlement was found more fragment parts from ceramic plates, often decorated with wavy lines shallow cannelures. Metal findings are discovered like, jewelry (bracelet, earrings, rings), parts from military equipment (armor, belt application, buckle), parts from building constructions and two coins from Roman I Lakapin. In stratigraphy of the settlement this cultural layer begun under humus.
